Highland Perthshire is a paradise for
cyclists with many dedicated cycle paths, and quiet country roads through some of Scotland's finest
scenery. The Atholl Centre is very cyclist friendly, so much so that we host the control centre for the
annual 'Etape closed road sportive' The Etape route is fantastic, whether you are part of the
official event or not! We can provide safe, secure stowage for your bike and even a packed picnic lunch if
you're out for the day.
For walkers there are paths and trails galore, (the 'Rob Roy Way' ends in Pitlochry), likewise for climbers you'll be spoilt for choice, this is 'Highland' Perthshire after all. For a small contribution we'll even look after your rucksack for the day if you fancy travelling light.
Pitlochry is home to the unique, theatrical phenomenon that is the Pitlochry Festival Theatre and nearby is the Birnam Arts Centre, a delightful multipurpose arts, and entertainment venue. Both have busy, varied programmes throughout the year. Drama and live music abound in pubs, hotels and community venues and for the day time there are lots of museums, galleries and art & craft studios to choose from. Don't forget Perthshire's many Highland Games events that happen county wide all summer.
If you're fascinated by castles and battles
then Highland Perthshire won’t disappoint. Blair Castle, seat of the Duke of Atholl with the only private
army in the UK, Killiecrankie scene of the famous Jacobite battle, Scone Palace where Kings of Scotland were
crowned, Dunkeld Cathedral with a list of Bishops going back to the 6th century, the Crannog – a
reconstruction of an iron-age loch dwelling with lots of hands on activities. Visit stone circles, standing
stones or even the Fortingall Yew, the UK's oldest tree, thought to be between 3000 and 9000 years old.
Pitlochry and the surrounding area have a great selection of cafes, restaurants and hotels offering a wide choice of snacks, carry-outs and fine dining. Superb local produce is available from regular farmer's markets and award winning speciality shops and there is a select group of six active whiskey distilleries in the county and two just outside its boundaries (all offering guided tours). Pitlochry itself boasts three distilleries, two whiskey (including Scotland’s smallest distillery) and the newest addition producing fine gins
